Designer Terry Gillespie is a native of North Carolina and received her
BFA, Interior Design, from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. She has
developed a following of clients because of her ability to appreciate
many lifestyles. Much of Terry's work is in the mountains of WNC and the
lowcountry of SC. Originality and the use of natural materials are a
hallmark in her work.
Terry has a love of old things used in a new way. Most recently, in a
new mountain home, a tree trunk was used in a powder room as a pedestal
for a beautiful glass vessel resting on leathered granite. Another item
of interest is a wall sconce made of recycled wine barrel staves
recessed in a beautiful, stacked stone wall to provide soft lighting in
the homeowners wine room.
Ask Terry what she thinks about historical properties and she will
tell you Charleston, SC has many beautiful, old structures waiting to
have a breath of new life pumped into them. While these are challenging
properties that require approval of architectural review boards, the end
result is well worth the effort. The patina of 200 year old heart pine
flooring, hand carved wood details and exposed, brick walls provide a
warmth that cannot be replicated. With careful attention to detail, she
says these properties do not have to feel like old properties. These
properties can be traditional, transitional or contemporary while
allowing us to live comfortably with modern day conveniences.
